Drawing III: Drawing With Water

I drew with water today. I played with the concept of the water reacting to natural elements.

My first photo is of a ring of water made by a cup. It shows that although a tiny amount of water might not be noticeable, on the right surface it stands out. A demonstration of time as well. The longer the water ring was on the ground the lighter it got. The ground absorbed it all eventually. It plays on the ideas that nothing lasts forever in time.

The second drawing with water is under the smoking area sign. Long drips of water trail down to the ground. I feel that smoking isn't good for ones self and that it pulls you down or slows you in a way. Much the way the water reacted to the repetition of painting it in the same spot.

My third and fifth drawings spans across a wall and floor. With this and the fifth drawing I wanted to give a sense of direction. Much like a path you walk. Kind of playing off of the other assignment, walking the line, just being conscious as to where you are going, what lies ahead, and what lies behind. I wanted to experiment with the differences on horizontal plains and vertical so I have one each.

The fourth drawing is of a body shape on the bench. Being in Florida and the weather being so warm I wanted to re create a common sign here. I exaggerated it to an extreme to get the point across and to be clear with what it is. Its a representational creation of something that is artificial that is usually created naturally.

The Sixth drawing is playing with the idea of natural elements. I painted water onto the side of the bucket to capture what happens when gravity takes over. The bucket would drip drops of water on the ground in various size, shape and proximity to each other depending on how much the bucket was teetering.

My seventh drawing was an experiment to see what would happen when drops of water were released on the handle in the stairway. The drops of water ended up not running over the edge of the handle like I suspected they would but instead pushed to the very edge and stopped. Just an interesting experiment.

The Eighth drawing is what I like to refer to as a perspective drawing. During that time of the day I outlined the shadow made by a railing on the ground. It would show a different drawing or perspective at a different time of day. The drawing is always changing and only lines up once a day.

My ninth drawing is a negative of another common sign, wet footprints. Instead of wetting my feet I painted around them. A very similar kind of technique to what you do when you were a child tracing your hand. Another play on time and how things are not permanent. As well as a play on the path/line you walk.

My final drawing I think relates to the most to the path that you walk and where you are headed. A line of water trailing down the stairs (or up the stairs) signifies that life always isn't a straight path. Sometimes you have to twists and turns, sometime minimal and sometimes extreme.
